What is a specialist orthodontist?

Dentists work to ensure the proper hygiene of your teeth. Orthodontists have all the training of your general dentist, but have continued on with specialty training to focus on straightening your teeth. They are also skilled in reshaping the jaw and overall facial profile of patients. While a dentist ensures dental health through regular cleanings, fillings or crowns, a Specialist Orthodontist keeps you healthy by providing a perfect bite and alignment to prevent tooth decay, TMJ, speech impediments and other oral health issues.

Additionally, orthodontists are specialists only if registered as “Specialty-Orthodontics” by the Australian Health Practitioners Regulatory Authority (AHPRA).

How are specialists qualified?

Specialists now undergo a further three years of full-time study to earn a clinical Master’s Degree after being qualified as a general dentist

Why choose a registered
specialist?

A Specialist Orthodontist is the only person who can make a diagnosis for dental misalignments. They will create a treatment plan that is tailored to your needs and provide you with detailed information about your care, quality of appliances, treatment times, costs and more. Working with an experienced Specialist Orthodontist lowers your risk of costly errors and increases the chances of achieving the desired result.
