Why You Need To Consider Wedding Braces Before The Big Day

While weddings are precious times, they also highlight things you’ve always wanted to change. In fact, you might just find yourself worrying about your smile for all those photos. While you’re probably used to your misaligned or crooked smile, the realisation that it’s about to be immortalised in your wedding album could leave you in a cold sweat. If that sounds familiar, it’s time to consider wedding braces.

Time to Change Your Smile

The first step is to assess your smile. Do your teeth overlap? Take a look in the mirror and smile as you will for the pictures. Are you unhappy with what you see?

Fortunately, most problems can be corrected with orthodontic treatment, and in time for your big day. Planning a wedding takes time, but if your date is set for a year or more’s time, there’s still plenty of time for wedding braces. If your wedding is sooner, Invisalign is always an option. You can remove the aligners just long enough for that “I do” kiss and some amazing photos.

Don’t Worry About Aesthetics

While you might plan for a better smile, you’re probably worried about a mouth full of metal flashing at the camera. If that’s the main thing holding you back, it’s time to rethink your orthodontic treatment.

Today’s treatments have come a long way and thanks to technology, you can achieve a straight and healthy smile with discretion. From hidden or lingual braces that fit behind your teeth to clear plastic aligners, there are plenty of discreet options.

Which treatment you have depends on your oral health. When you have your initial exam, make sure you mention your wedding date so we can work around or towards your special day and highlight options to fit your orthodontic and photographic needs.

The Benefits of Planning Ahead for Wedding Braces

Now that you realise you can achieve a beautiful smile for your wedding day, let’s consider the benefits of planning ahead for your wedding braces and your big moment.

WEDDING BRACES TAKE TIME

There’s no quick way to achieve a healthy, straight smile. The trick is to be realistic about your wedding braces expectations. If your plan is to enjoy an extended engagement, it’s the perfect time to consider traditional or lingual braces. But if your date is set for less than a year, you’re going to want a faster plan.

TALK TO YOUR ORTHODONTIST ABOUT INVISALIGN

Traditional orthodontics can take anywhere up to 3 years to achieve the best results. Invisalign, though, can be completed in just 9 to 12 months, and sometimes sooner depending on the condition of your smile.

Another benefit of these wedding braces is that the aligners come in a clear plastic and can be removed. So, even if your treatment isn’t finished in time for your wedding, you can remove the aligners for the ceremony and photo session.

THINK CAREFULLY ABOUT METAL BRACES

As you know, metal braces are bonded to your teeth for the duration of your treatment. That means it’s not as easy to remove them for your big day. Some orthodontists will take a careful look at your situation to see if they’ll allow your braces to come off for the wedding but taking off and putting metal braces back on come with hefty costs. And it can delay your progress.

If you require metal braces, lingual wedding braces are the way to go. These braces are bonded to the back of your teeth, out of sight. That means no “train track” mouth photos and most people won’t even realise you’re wearing braces!

LINGUAL BRACES OFFER PLENTY OF BENEFITS

As wedding braces go, lingual braces are an excellent option. They work similarly to traditional braces, but they move teeth from inside rather than outside. They also use wires and brackets just like conventional braces.

How Lingual Braces Work
The first step towards your wedding day smile is to visit us so we can take an impression of your teeth. The impression is sent off to a lab that uses high-tech software to design and make the bracket. The bracket is therefore customised to sit perfectly on the back of each tooth.

On your next visit, we’ll cement the brackets to the teeth and break off the plastic applicator when the bracket is in place. We then attach an arch wire to the brackets.

The Benefits of Lingual Wedding Braces
When it comes to lingual braces, not only can you look forward to a major self-esteem boost as you work towards a straighter smile, but you can also look forward to a confident smile on your wedding day. No one will see your braces – in person or in the photos!

We know that smiling for photos when you have a mouth full of metal braces can be incredibly daunting. Or, you might be worried about your guests focusing on your braces instead of on the day. With lingual braces, there’s no need to worry. Chances are, you’ll look back on your photos in the years to come and forget you even had braces in the first place!

Get Your Smile Ready for the Big Day

Patients who have opted for wedding braces enjoy watching their teeth move into line for the big day, especially so with lingual braces. Of course, you can still see how your teeth take shape with traditional braces and Invisalign, but it can be hard to look past the brackets and aligners to picture the end result.

With wedding braces, you can enjoy achieving a straighter, healthier smile just as much as you enjoy planning your wedding day!
